Sidney and Helen Graboyes: A Love Story

This amazing love story has been provided to us by the family of Helen and Sidney Graboyes and the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.


It's our honor to share it with you:


June 18, 1944, Sidney and Helen Graboyes married after Sidney completed his 25 missions as a radio operator with the 100thBG 351stSQ and returned to the United States.

On March 19, 1944, TSgt Sidney Graboyes received his recommendation for duty letter stating he had completed his 25 required missions operational tour of duty with the 8th Air Force, 100th Bombardment Group, 351st Squadron.

12. December 31, 1943 - Paris

13. January 4, 1944 - Kiel

14. January 5, 1944 - Neuss (Ruhr Valley)

15. January 11, 1944 - Brunswick

16. January 21, 1944 - St. Omar

17. January 29, 1944 - Frankfurt

18. January 30, 1944 - Brunswick

19. February 4, 1944 - Frankfurt

Telegram sent to Helen after Sidney arrived back in America.  Note the telegram is signed “Whimp,” her nickname for him.
